During the time of COVID, many people took to home-based baking. Buoyed on by reception, some ventured on to start their own business. Azikiwee "Z" Anderson was one of those aspiring bakers. But he was driven by more than the need to just bake bread. It was his way of coping with the social unrest that followed the killing of George Floyd, of creating representation, access and opportunity in a space where Black bakers have been historically underrepresented. Rize Up Bakery is a San Francisco-based microbakery that specializes in artisan long-fermented sourdough loaves.
During this hands on session at Rize Up, you will participate in
- A bread-scoring demonstration and hands-on experience at the bakery
- A conversation around Azikiwee's personal journey, the fermentation, and the craft of baking bread
- A full butter board & charcuterie experience
Guests will go home with fresh bread from the scoring demo and additional baked goods, stickers and/or a tote bag.
So join us for a fun evening at one of San Francisco's hottest bakeries. Bring your friends, bring your dates, bring your mother-in-law (on second thought, maybe not your mother-in-law).
This program is in-person only. Participation limited to 40.
