Reading Californians Book Discussion: The Committed

If you are not a member yet, now is the time to join our community and receive the great benefits of membership. We are a group of people seeking truth, insight and wisdom about the issues we face as individuals and as a society. Please join! You can become a monthly sustaining member for just $10 a month.

Acclaimed author Viet Thanh Nguyen will discuss and take questions about his long-awaited sequel to the Pulitzer Prize-winning The Sympathizer, the 2022 California Book Awards' silver medalist The Committed. We pick up the story of Nguyen's protagonist (or anti-hero?) first in Paris then on to California, where he gets embroiled in the Vietnamese community's underworld. This fast-paced novel is a must read, as Nguyen's writing is full of irony, sardonic humor and word play.

Join us in-person or online to hear directly from the author (who will join us via Zoom) and to share your thoughts and questions on the book and the issues it raises.
