The perils of modern medicine are now widely appreciated. Miller says all solutions offered to mitigate "the health-care crisis" in America are economic – a zero-sum game. We are now at a critical juncture in the evolution of medicine, and Miller states that “transformation" is the needed approach to solving the problems that plague our medical system. Economic solutions lead to cost-shifting, which he says will not improve the underlying malady: the declining loss of quality of care. A newer model is evolving: antiaging/functional/longevity medicine. Miller asserts that national debate should be posed in terms of goals and aspirations for a new system, not simply universal methods of payment.
