The rising cost of health care looms large over the state and the nation. The CEO of Blue Shield of California, one of the state's largest health-plan providers, will discuss new initiatives to address rising health-care costs in the context of national health reform. A native of Iowa, Bodaken doesn't fit the typical profile of a health-plan CEO. He earned a masters degree and taught philosophy at the college level before embarking on a career in health care. He has been at the helm of Blue Shield of California for 11 years.
