SF Climate Week at Climate One: Wade Crowfoot, Liane Randolph, and Mari Rose Taruc, the Action Lounge, and More

Leading San Francisco in a Hot and Volatile World
2–2:30 p.m.

In 2021, Mayor London Breed released the San Francisco Action Plan, which aims to achieve net zero emissions for the city by 2040. The plan not only charts the course for eliminating emissions over the next two decades but also includes commitments to ensure that the benefits of climate action are extended equitably to all communities. That was three years ago. So what progress has been made so far? And what strategies are in place to get the city to its 2040 target?

Join Climate One Co-host Greg Dalton in a live conversation with San Francisco Environment Director Tyrone Jue, as they discuss what it means to address climate at a regional level.

Is California on Track for an Affordable and Just Energy Transition?
2:35–3:15 p.m.

The Golden State has staked much of its reputation on its green credentials, with state leaders often touting its role on the leading edge of global and national climate progress. But California is falling behind in meeting its ambitious emission targets, and it has been criticized for over-relying on emerging clean energy technologies that might not bear out—and worse, increase harm to communities of color and low-income households.

Join us in a live conversation with California Air Resources Board Chair Liane Randolph and California Environmental Justice Alliance’s Energy Justice Director Mari Rose Taruc about the role regulators and community advocates should play in ensuring our clean energy transition remains equitable and on track.

3:15–3:30 p.m. Intermission

Rewiring America Presents: Electrify Everything with Rahul Young and Mr. Heat Pump
3:30–3:45 p.m.

Rahul Young, director of local engagement at Rewiring America, joins us in person to talk about the work Rewiring America is doing to electrify homes, businesses, and communities across the country. Interested in beginning your home electrification journey? This talk is for you!

30x30 and Other Climate Priorities with California Natural Resources Agency Secretary Wade Crowfoot
3:45–4:15 p.m.

In October, Gov. Gavin Newsom signed SB 337, formalizing California’s commitment to preserving 30 percent of the state’s land and waters by 2030. What hurdles must now be overcome to implement this ambitious goal? And how might this initiative make the state and its people more resilient to the growing impacts of climate change?

Join KQED's science reporter Danielle Venton in a live conversation with Wade Crowfoot about leading efforts to conserve California's environment and natural resources.

The Green Gender Gap
4:15–4:30 p.m.

LinkedIn’s 2023 annual “green skills” report revealed some sobering findings. Around the world, as the clean energy transition takes off, women are being left out of the workforce at alarming rates. Join Gianna De Filippis, senior program manager of LinkedIn's Public Policy & Economic Graph program, to find out how women are vastly underrepresented in the green energy transition and what work is being done to broaden the climate innovation talent pipeline.

Action Lounge
1–5 p.m.

Throughout the day's events, Climate One will host an Action Lounge, where attendees will be able to join local climate and environmental organizations, learn about green jobs, and receive guidance from climate career coaches.
