Michael Waldman: How the Supreme Court Divided America

In June 2022, the U.S. Supreme Court overturned the constitutional right to an abortion, weakened gun restrictions and dramatically scaled back the E.P.A.’s authority to regulate carbon emissions. Michael Waldman, author of the new book The Supermajority: How the Supreme Court Divided America, explains why the court’s 2021–2022 term was the most consequential in decades. The president of NYU’s Brennan Center for Justice, Waldman analyzes key rulings and looks at what the Court’s current trajectory could mean for democracy.

We’ll also talk with Waldman about recent revelations that Justice Clarence Thomas accepted payments and luxury gifts from a GOP megadonor, and why he believes the court needs term limits and an ethics code.

Come hear one of the nation’s leading Supreme Court experts explain how its actions could affect the daily lives of every American—and generations to come.
