Women's Leadership and Democracy in a Post-Pandemic World

Join the International Relations Member-Led Forum for a live Zoom discussion of this timely topic. Please have your camera on and plan to participate.

Women leaders worldwide are increasing their roles in government. Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern, recently re-elected by a landslide, has been praised for New Zealand’s response to the pandemic. Germany’s Angela Merkel is often called the leader of Europe. In most parts of the world, a growing number of women are elected to legislative bodies, and they are also rising in the corporate, scientific and academic realms.

Some observers have pointed out that not all women leaders seek “progressive” goals, citing Marine Le Pen of the National Front in France and Margaret Thatcher, former prime minister of the United Kingdom. Aung San Suu Kyi of Myanmar is criticized for her support of the Burmese military.

As always, we encourage an enlightened, respectful discussion sharing many points of view. This will be live -- we will be able to see and hear one another.
