Book Discussion: The Imperfectionists by Tom Rachman

 The Imperfectionists by Tom Rachman

Each chapter of Tom Rachman’s The Imperfectionists focuses on a different member of the staff of a fictional newspaper and could stand alone as a short story. But added together they become a single novel with cohesive themes and a unifying tone that treats the newspaper business with affection and humor while refusing to romanticize it. Janet Maslin of The New York Times called the novel’s structure “so ingenious…that figuring out where the author is headed is half the reader’s fun.” As a reminder, the author will not be present.
