The U.S. Coast Guard will soon celebrate its 220th year of stewardship of our nation’s seas. Today’s 50,000 “Coasties” save dozens of lives on any given day in daring sea rescues and oil spill cleanups, immigration detail and protecting our shores from terrorist attacks. Helvarg spent two years riding on Coast Guard boats and aircraft from Hawaii to the North Arabian Gulf. Get a rare glimps at the history of America’s forgotten heroes.
