SPEAKER: Wesley Clark, Former NATO Supreme Allied Commander;
Author, A Time to Lead: For Duty, Honor and Country.

TITLE: A Time to Lead

Former U.S. Democratic Presidential Candidate and Four-star General Wesley Clark, who served for thirty-four years in the United States Army and rose to serve as NATO’s Supreme Allied Commander, will share his experience, and his hope for restoring leadership in America. Clark, who led the peacekeeping troops in Kosovo, will offer a vision of a foreign policy that rests on negotiation, principles, and determination. He will tell us why he believes that hard work, responsible leadership and fortitude will ultimately turn the country around. Clark, a pro-choice and pro-affirmative action democrat, sought the presidency in 2004 hoping to bring a less hawkish perspective to the White House.

In September 2003, Clark’s campaign for the U.S. presidency won the state of Oklahoma and launched him to national prominence before his return to the private sector in February 2004. Since retiring from political and military life, Clark has been an investment banker, commentator, businessman, and author. In his most recent book, A Time to Lead: For Duty, Honor and Country, Clark describes what he thinks should be done to defeat terrorism, rebuild the economy and restore global leadership.

Clark served as commanding General of the Army's National Training Center during the Persian Gulf War. He later conducted three emergency deployments to Kuwait as the commanding general of the 1st Cavalry Division at Fort Hood, Texas. He was appointed an Army Captain at the age of 25 in Vietnam, returning home after receiving four gun shot wounds. At the age of 17, Clark entered West Point, where he graduated first in his class and became a Rhodes Scholar.
