Now & Then Series: The Jewish Community of the Bay Area Since 1945

Fred Rosenbaum, Founding Director, Lehrhaus Judaica

Jews have been at the center of business, political and artistic life in the Bay Area since the Gold Rush, but the postwar demographic transformation and technological revolution have linked the community with world Jewry in unprecedented ways. Nevertheless, the cosmopolitan ethos that has characterized local Jews and Jewish institutions has remained constant. Rosenbaum will discuss the evolution of this Bay Area community.
