David Ewing Duncan is an award-winning, best-selling author of six books, numerous essays, articles and short stories, and is a television, radio and film producer and correspondent. Duncan is on a quest of chemical self-discovery. National Geographic sponsored a test for 320 chemicals he might have picked up from food, drink, the air and ordinary products – compounds acquired by merely living. He ran the tests to learn what substances build up in a typical American over a lifetime and where they might come from. What he found was disturbing.
