SUPPORTING AAPI VOICES

The United States has witnessed a wave of anti-asian incidents—many of them violent, even deadly—over the past year, fueled by incendiary political rhetoric. The Commonwealth Club of California stands for civil dialogue, supporting people of all backgrounds, and drawing on the thoughts, experiences and talents of all.

To help the community better understand the issues facing Asian Americans and the rest of society, we present a selection of related programming from The Commonwealth Club and "The Michelle Meow Show."

Thank you to Gilead Sciences, Inc., for its generous support of "The Michelle Meow Show" and its shared commitment to supporting our AAPI Community.

COMMONWEALTH CLUB STATEMENT IN SUPPORT OF THE AAPI COMMUNITY

We at The Commonwealth Club are heart-broken about the murders of 10 Americans, mostly Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders, in Atlanta, followed by 10 more Americans murdered in Boulder. We express our condolences and support for the AAPI members of our staff, our board, our volunteers and our community, as well as to the communities in Atlanta and Boulder.

The murders in Atlanta resulted from the toxic combination of unaddressed racial prejudice, mental illness and easy access to combat-style firearms, with many of the same factors behind the massacre in Boulder.

These mass murders were the latest of 104 mass shootings in the United States just in 2021, in which 120 people have been killed and 380 have been wounded.

The Club commits itself to supporting the AAPI community however we can. We dedicate the Club to creating dialogue that will produce practical steps to stop the intolerable level of gun violence in our country.
