Position Title: Development Manager
• Reports to: Vice President, Development and Membership
• Department: Development

Position Overview:
The Development Manager for corporate and foundation gifts is responsible for the identification, cultivation and stewardship of corporate members and sponsors, as well as preparation of foundation proposals and reports for funding of The Commonwealth Club of California.

The Development Manager is expected to facilitate and support the fundraising activities of Club leadership including the VP of Development and Membership, members of the Executive staff, members of the Board, Development Committee and other volunteers. The Development Manager will assist in the identification and cultivation of corporate and foundation gifts in order to meet Club fundraising goals, and may assist in direct solicitations when appropriate.

Primary Duties: Development Manager responsibilities include:
• Developing and implementing long and short term plans to secure major and annual gifts from corporate and foundation donors in support of the Club's mission and priorities;
• Formulating strategies to reach annual fundraising goals for corporate and foundation donations
• Assisting with the Club’s current $20 million Capital Campaign to fund our new headquarters
• Supporting the VP of Development and Membership, Executive staff and volunteers involved with soliciting corporate and foundation gifts, through the Development Committee and other related Committees;
• Serving as the lead Development Department staff person in managing the Club’s corporate giving prospects, including preparation and execution of sponsorship solicitations and corporate membership renewals;
• Managing and delivering corporate membership and sponsorship benefits, including tracking benefit fulfillment, and ensuring sponsor recognition and cultivation;
• Working closely with the CEO and VP of Development and Memebrship, assist in management of the Club’s foundation grant program, including preparation of grant proposals and reports, and grant fulfillment tracking and reporting;
• Refining and expanding the Club’s existing portfolio of corporate and foundation prospects through regular prospect research;
• Working with the Club’s Silicon Valley division to identify and recruit corporate and foundation supporters in the South Bay;
• Ensuring that proper prospect and donor records are maintained and gifts from major corporate and foundation donors are acknowledged in a timely fashion;
• Personally maintaining extensive and accurate records in Raiser’s Edge of all corporate and foundation contacts;
• Providing general support for all fundraising efforts within the Development Department as needed;
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications: The successful candidate will have the following qualifications:

Education: 
Minimum bachelor's degree

Experience:
• 2-5 years professional experience in fundraising for a nonprofit organization
• Background writing grants and fundraising proposals for the institutional market
• Experience managing donor relationships within the institutional market
• Strong commitment to the mission, vision, values, and programs of the organization, and the ability to convey that information
• High level of computer proficiency working with Raiser’s Edge.
• Willingness to operate in a "hands-on" environment
• Ability to manage multiple demands in a rapidly changing environment
• Strong analytical skills and a service approach
• Proven ability to exercise good and independent judgment; follow through on details; and plan and act strategically, tactfully and creatively
• Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
• Ability to work with all levels of the organization
• Flexibility and a good sense of humor
• Excellent attention to detail

Compensation:
This is a full-time, exempt, professional management position. Salary commensurate with experience.
