CHATELAIN
CARTE de L'AMERIQUE
Intro  | 1  | 2  | 3  | 4  | 5  | 6  | 7  | 8

Henry Abraham Chatelain
(1684-1743)

Map of America:
Insert with insular California on sheet, Circa 1703. Chatelain was a geographer and publisher: Atlas Historique, 7 volumes; Amsterdam 1705-20, 1721 and 1732-39.

From 1650-1750, California was erroneously called an island. When Father Eusebio Kino could not get north past the Sea of Cortez in the early 1700's, this thinking began to change.
