This panel of experts will review lessons learned in other states about healthcare and the best way to address the issues of fair access, cost and quality here in California. They will also examine the pros, cons, benefits and pitfalls of Universal Coverage. Governor Schwarzenegger and state lawmakers are continuing to navigate their way through proposals in an effort to find the plan that works best for the public without bankrupting the Golden State.

Brown has studied the gamut of issues that affect the access of disadvantaged populations, ethnic minorities and immigrants to health care. His research focuses the effects of public policies, managed care, and market conditions on access to health services. Wright heads Health Access California, the statewide health care consumer advocacy coalition working on behalf of the insured and uninsured. The organization is made up of over 200 organizations representing seniors, children, working families, people with disabilities, immigrants, people of faith, labor, and communities of color. Kabateck directs The National Federation of Independent Business, a nonpartisan group that helps small and independent business owners shape public policy. Relman, a former professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School, has written extensively on the economic, ethical, legal, and social aspects of health care for over two decades. He has focused on the present unhappy condition of the U. S. health care system, with particular attention to the role of private enterprise.
