Matt Cantor: The New Slavery
The New Slavery
Matt Cantor, Columnist, Berkeley Daily Planet
Monday Night Philosophy investigates one aspect of the future of work, and finds a resurgence, in different dress, of the institution of human slavery. We'll look at the controversial topic of prison populations in the U.S., which are continuing to surge; the labor of many of those forcibly idled inmates is being put to use. Are long prison terms for petty crimes a recruiting tool? Hear Cantor's arguments and concerns about the re-emergence and social acceptance of this ancient form of exploitation.
