Andreas Bummel: United Nations Parliamentary Assembly and Global Democracy
United Nations Parliamentary Assembly (UNPA) and Global Democracy
Andreas Bummel, Secretary-General, Campaign for a United Nations Parliamentary Assembly, Berlin
Globalization and efforts to shape global policies can make the absence of democracy at the international level very troubling. Wide cross-sections of the public don't feel sufficiently represented by their governments in international institutions and negotiations. UNPA aims to address this by including citizens in global decision-making through elected representatives. One of the world's leading activists for the establishment of a world parliament, Bummel has authored numerous articles and publications on the subject and has cooperated with civil society organizations and legislators from all over the world.
