A Tiger in the Kitchen: A Memoir of Food and Family

Cheryl Lu-Lien Tan, Author, A Tiger in the Kitchen, A Memoir of Food and Family

By slowing down her fast-paced life to learn to prepare her ancestors’ pineapple tarts, pandan-skin moon cakes and more, Tan embarked on a study of culinary anthropology in which her family’s roots are revealed. She pieces together family history, dotted by secret gambling dens, opium addictions and family schisms. In the kitchen, Tan learned to infuse her New York lifestyle with her Singaporean heritage.

In keeping with the subject of Tan's memoir, a packed lunch featuring Singaporean food will be served.
