Anne Willan: Exploring the Origin of the Modern Cookbook

Exploring the Origin of the Modern Cookbook

Anne Willan, Author, The Cookbook Library: Four Centuries of the Cooks, Writers and Recipes that Made the Modern Cookbook

From the opulent banquet halls of the Burgundian dukes to the tables of simple English countrymen and American settlers, Willan explores the religious, economic and political crosscurrents that influenced their meals. She traces the development of recipes over time and updates these recipes for the modern kitchen. This project is a deeply personal labor of love, and a fascinating tour through culinary history and book collecting.
