Ian Morris: Why the West Rules - For Now
Why the West Rules…for Now
Ian Morris, Professor of Classics, History and Archaeology, Stanford University; Author, Why the West Rules
Monday Night Philosophy hosts Morris to discuss his all-encompassing theory of human history. He is an archaeologist by specialty, and his approach is based on his premise that humans are lazy, greedy and afraid by nature, and that the changes they pursue are designed to satisfy those needs. By taking sociology and geography also into account, Morris constructs a “social development index” which he uses to measure and compare epochal changes from the onset of agriculture to the industrial revolution.
