The Status of Women in Technology: The Ongoing Challenges of Retention and Advancement

Caroline Simard, Ph.D., Vice President of Research and Executive Programs, Anita Borg Institute for Women and Technology

While the ascent of women has been a reality in many spheres of society, change has been uncharacteristically slow in the realm of high technology. Yet technology is omnipresent in our lives and a major driver of economic growth. Drawing on a vast array of research, including a large-scale study she conducted with leading technology companies, Simard explores the remaining cultural, organizational and individual barriers to women’s retention and advancement in high-tech fields and offers solutions to move women forward in breaking the “Silicon Ceiling.”
