Chinese Medicine: A Vital Partner in American Health Care

Chinese Medicine: A Vital Partner in American Health Care

Efrem Korngold, O.M.D., LA.c, Chinese Medicine Works; Co-author, Between Heaven and Earth
Harriet Beinfield, LA.c, Chinese Medicine Works; Co-author, Between Heaven and Earth

Unbeknownst to many, Chinese traditional medicine has been a consistent part of American health care since the 1800s, but it didn’t capture the national consciousness until the 1970s, when President Nixon visited China. Since then, acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine have steadily expanded into many corners of our health-care system, meeting an ever-increasing demand from people who want more than conventional medical care. Beinfield and Korngold have inspired thousands of health seekers, students and doctors to explore, appreciate, study and practice Chinese medicine. They will discuss the history of Chinese medicine in America – their introduction to its philosophy and practice in 1972, and the contribution it has made and continues to make.
