The Philosophy of Irony: Jonathan Swift
The Philosophy of Irony: Jonathan Swift
Gene Hammond, English Professor, SUNY-Stonybrook, Director of Writing
Monday Night Philosophy starts 2010 on an ironic tone, featuring a lecture, followed by a dialogue and then an open discussion, of Jonathan Swift's ideas. The master of satire showed how irony speaks louder and involves the reader more than other forms of prose, shown most famously in A Modest Proposal. Join us to explore the layers of cynicism, communication and the human condition.
