Competitive Tensions in Marriage at the Bridge Table and Other Games

Gary Pomerantz, Journalist; Visiting Lecturer, Stanford University; Author, The Devil’s Tickets

What can card games teach us about marital tensions in the 1920s and ’30s and today? Celebrated nonfiction author Pomerantz gives a richly detailed account of how bridge became a nationwide craze during the Depression and was even at the center of a sensational murder trial. Pomerantz will explore just why and how the game of tricks and trumps has endured.
