The Street Food Movement: SF Hearts the Cart

Anthony Myint, Mission Street Food
Brian Kimball, Magic Curry Kart
Steven Gdula, Gobba Gobba Hey
Charles Phan, Executive Chef, Slanted Door
Tamara Palmer, Contributor, Pavement Cuisine, SF Weekly – Moderator

These days you can barely walk down some streets without bumping into a taco truck, a sausage stand or the tamale lady. San Francisco just held its first-ever Street Food Festival, and the local Creme Brulee Man was recently written up in The New York Times, signifying that Bay Area street food has moved beyond pretzels and hot dogs and into the Twittersphere and beyond. We’ll ask some of the local cart chefs about their food, their big plans, their permit status and how the new street-eats scene is changing ideas about dining out.

After the discussion, we'll head over to 111 Minna, where some of your favorite street food carts will be offering limited samples and hawking their eats, including: Bacon Potato Chips, Bike Basket Pies, Creme Brulee Cart, Gobba Gobba Hey, Magic Curry Kart, Mission Street Food, Soul Cocina, Sweet Constructions and Smitten Ice Cream.

Location: SF Club Office (program), 111 Minna (post-panel street food tasting)
Time: 6 p.m. check in, 6:30 p.m. panel, 7:30 street eats party at 111 Minna
Cost: $12 members, $20 non-members, $7 students (with valid ID)
