Today, our speaker, Congressman Ronald V. Dellums is a 35-year-old gentleman who was elected to represent California's 7th Congressional District, that is the Berkeley-Oakland area, in 1970. Holder of a master's degree in Social Work from the University of California at Berkeley and himself a product of the West Oakland ghetto, Representative Dellums has been exposed to the problems of the nation's rapidly growing cities. He was also a lecturer at San Francisco State College and at the Graduate School of Social Work at the University of California at Berkeley. Elected in April 1967, Mr. Dellums was a member of the Berkeley City Council. Ron Dellums acquired a bachelor's degree from San Francisco State College and a master's degree at Berkeley. He was a psychiatric social worker for the California Department of Mental Hygiene for several years, program director of the Bayview Community Center in 1965, and director of the Hunters Point Youth Opportunity Center in 1966, a planning consultant to the Bay Area Social Planning Council in 1966 and 1967, and director of the Concentrated Employment Program of the San Francisco Economic Opportunity Council in 1968.
