R. E. "TED" TURNER

Ted Turner
Former Vice Chairman, AOL Time Warner, Inc.; Founder, CNN

The second installment of The Club's Medallion Speaker Series featured R.E. "Ted" Turner, whose address identified nuclear weapons as the greatest challenge currently facing humanity. Turner encouraged the government to take its nuclear arsenal off "hair-trigger alert," and criticized U.S. unilateralism in its engagements abroad. In addition to tackling the grave issue of nuclear annihilation, Turner injected humor into the evening, singing the praises of the buffalo- "It's kind of cannibalistic, but I can't live on green beans" - and lamenting the increasing control of the media by a select few moguls, "particularly considering that I'm not one of them."
