In conversation with Barbara Lane, Director, Commonwealth Club Book Awards

Former California Book Award winner Ethan Canin's new novel Carry Me Across the Water tells the story of the one-time "beer king of Pittsburgh," looking back on his life—and the 20th century. Trained in medicine at Harvard, Canin gave up his Hippocratic calling to pursue writing full time. He now teaches at another alma mater of his, the Iowa Writer's Workshop.
